Aromatherapy is a multifaceted healing art with an ancient history that uses essential oils extracted from various parts of aromatic plants and trees to promote health of mind and body.
Essential oils are highly concentrated substances extracted from the flowers, leaves, roots, seeds and bark of aromatic plants and trees. These oils each consist of many, sometimes hundreds of chemical components, which provide the oil with properties to aid a range of conditions can help prevent illness.
In therapeutic aromatherapy, essential oils may be used in different ways, including massage, creams, lotions, steam inhalation, and baths. The effects of essential oils work on both emotional and physical levels. Oils are used to calm, stimulate, energise, refresh and to uplift. Oils such as Ti Tree are used for their antiseptic properties.
Conditions that may be helped by aromatherapy include: skin and respiratory problems, headaches, tension, anxiety, depression, minor cuts or burns, muscular aches.
