Indian Head Massage has been practised in India for thousands of years. Its origin lies in the hair grooming practised by women. It is a simple and effective therapy that can relieve stress, anxiety and mental tension.
Indian Head Massage is normally carried out with the client sitting comfortably in a chair. However, it can be carried out with the client lying on a couch.
Over the years, the techniques have developed and adapted, influenced by different techniques of different times and cultures.
The treatment usually includes massage of the shoulders, upper arms, neck and face. It can be carried out with the client clothed, in which case no oils will be used. Alternatively, if oils are to be used (to the shoulders, neck and upper arms), the client will be wrapped in a towel, ensuring modesty at all times.
Some of the benefits of Indian Head Massage are: -

- Relieves tension in muscle tissue
- Helps improve mobility in neck and shoulder area
